Laura Anne Brooks is a self-taught painter living in Williamsburg, Brooklyn whose practice has focused on figurative portraiture and collage to evoke a dynamic juxtaposition of qualities that reflect the complexities of the female experience. Her latest work developed during covid examines an unfolding reality of fear, isolation, and rebirth, in which we still crave intimate connection and sexual expression, and will co-opt wartime simulacra or glamorous social media filters to find meaning within disorientation. She believes this reaction is an attempt to retain what makes us human, and through this period of reflection and exploration our spirit will survive, because above all, this too shall pass.
