Stage Manager, Company Manager & Educator (UK)

BSc, PGDip, FHEA Peter is a Senior Lecturer in Stage Management at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, a specialist college within the University of London. He is a Trustee Director of the Association of British Theatre Technicians and former chair of the ABTT’s Training and Education Committee. He is also a UK delegate on the OISTAT (International Organisation of Scenographers Theatre Architects and Technicians) Education Commission. Following a BSc in General Science at Durham University, Peter trained in Stage Management at RADA. He began his professional theatre career as a freelance scenic carpenter and as a stage technician at the Adelphi Theatre in London’s West End. Peter started his Stage Management career in fringe theatre in London before joining the Mercury Theatre, Colchester as Assistant Stage Manager moving on to Deputy Stage Manager in his second season. This was followed by five years at the National Theatre, working in all three theatres and on tours within the UK, Europe and North America. Peter subsequently became Company and Stage Manager at the Chichester Festival Theatre and then for the Sir Peter Hall Company for a season at the Playhouse Theatre, Charing Cross and with the Almeida Theatre’s first national tour.  He has also worked in the corporate sector as a Production Assistant and Show Caller and as a Pyrotechnician. Peter’s book, The Essentials of Stage Management (Methuen Drama, London) was published in 2004 and he is currently co-writing a book on producing performances in non-theatre spaces.
