Boris Verkhovsky

Acrobatic & Human Performance Designer (Soviet Union / Belarus)

Boris was born, raised and initially educated in the Soviet Union, where he achieved USSR Master of Sport status. He was Tumbling Head Coach of the School of Olympic Reserve in Vitebsk, Belarus, until emigrating to Canada in 1978/79.While working in Calgary, Alberta, Boris was appointed the Canadian National Trampoline and Tumbling Head Coach. He led the team to numerous major international events, including World Championships and World Games. He was also a National Gymnastics Team coach and taught at the Mount Royal College (now University) and the University of Calgary in Kinesiology and Physical Education faculties.For many years, Boris was a Master Course Conductor for the Canadian National Coaching Certification Programs and co-authored some of the technical manuals for the courses.For the last 27 years (1993-2020), Boris worked at Cirque du Soleil. First as a Head Coach, then as the Director of the Performance Design and Development Department and finally as a Director-Expert, Human Performance. In 2016, Boris was inducted into the Gallery of Legends of the World Acrobatic Society.
